Happily Sustainable Beauty and Style with Tricia

Tricia Chen, the slow fashion and sustainable skincare content creator at “Happily Ever Style,” lets us in on her eco-friendly pregnancy journey.

Happily Sustainable Beauty and Style with Tricia

Meet Tricia! The beauty and brains behind Happily Ever Style, a platform where she talks about slow fashion, sustainable skincare, and mindful travel. She is also the founder of Once Upon, a social media and influencer marketing agency that focuses on working with small businesses in the fashion and beauty industry. As an expecting mom, she is living (and loving!) her most important journey yet!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! What are you most excited about being a mom?

Thank you! I’m really close to my parents, especially my mom, and I’m often amazed by how much she’s willing to do for my brother and me. I guess I’m excited about experiencing what it’s like to give that unconditional love to my little one! I’m also looking forward to grow and learn with my baby.

What sustainable practices do you follow in preparation for motherhood?

I’ve been making sure that I only use sustainable beauty products, ones that are pregnancy-safe. And instead of buying a lot of maternity clothes that I may not wear in the future, I’ve opted for renting them. When I do buy new clothes, I buy pieces that I can easily wear during and after my pregnancy, too. For baby products, I’ve been shopping from sustainable brands, too, choosing non-toxic products that are safe for the baby to use as well as for the environment. On our baby registry, for instance, we mentioned to our friends and family that we are more than happy to receive hand-me-downs! They don’t have to feel obligated to buy us brand-new products if they already have something that they no longer need or use.

Could you share with us any self-care tips?

Self-care comes in many forms and there really isn’t a right or wrong way to incorporate self-care rituals into your daily routine. I think being patient with finding what works for you in different stages of your life is itself one of the most important things you can do for yourself. The reminder I often give myself is not to force it because if you’re “making” yourself meditate or feel stressed about having to journal or dreading your 10-step skincare routine, then it really defeats the original purpose of caring for yourself. Whatever you choose to do for yourself, it should be something that you really look forward to and truly enjoy.

It’s amazing how you balance work and leisure! What is a day like in your life?

So I don’t have a set schedule and routine for things – and I actually like that! Since I work with clients who are based in various parts of the world, my work schedule looks different every day. I could be on a call at 7 am with a client in Italy and at 9 pm with a client in Hong Kong; I could be out having a coffee meeting in the afternoon one day and be hosting a Zoom event the next evening; I could be in Central Park for a photo shoot one morning and filming videos at home the following day.To balance work and personal life, I actually schedule “me-time” into my calendar so that I wouldn’t forget to take a break or do something for myself. I also dedicate Sundays to my family, making sure that I spend quality time with loved ones.

We’re so curious, what inspired you to name your blog “Happily Ever Style”?

I believe a sense of style is not always about what’s trending at the moment, but something more personal and fashion is supposed to be fun! So I wanted to make sure my blog name reflects those aspects and beliefs. I personally think the best outfit is one that makes you feel good about yourself and puts a smile on your face – honestly, nothing else matters more!

How does your style fit into your lifestyle?

Right now as an expecting mom, I’m opting for what feels comfortable. But I do enjoy dressing up, too, so I find a balance between comfort and style. I always choose shoes that are made for walking – like VEERAH’s shoes! – because living in Manhattan has made walking a big part of my everyday life. Which honestly, is healthy and good for me and my baby, too!
