For nearly eight years, we've been committed to sustainable and vegan fashion, long before it became a buzzword. Our dedication to creating beautiful designer vegan footwear for eco-warriors has always been at the heart of what we do. We're excited to see new innovations emerging with bio-based and recycled materials, as well as a reduction in the usage of petroleum, energy, and water. While we don't have a perfect solution yet, our commitment to minimizing our fashion footprint remains unwavering. Join us in this mission and be part of the change.
APPLE PEEL LEATHER
This USDA certified bio-based vegan leather is made from a byproduct of the apple juice industry - repurposing apple peels that would otherwise decompose and produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The apple peels are ground into nano-fiber and mixed with 100% bio-based yarn and waterborne polyurethane, creating a unique material that is durable and supple. To achieve a variety of colors, non-toxic, organic pigments are added for coloring and coagulation. The process was produced with recycled water. With 66% bio-based content, this innovative material helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lessen the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
Bamboo is a highly sustainable and regenerative plant that requires minimal water and no pesticides to grow. It also absorbs high amounts of CO2, making it an eco-friendly choice for material sourcing. Bamboo-based leather is created by processing bamboo fibers into a fabric that has the texture and durability of leather, without the use of animal products or harmful chemicals. Its production does not contribute to deforestation, and its natural antimicrobial properties keep feet feeling cool and fresh, making it perfect for all-day wear
RECYCLED LEATHER AND GLITTER
The transformation of recycled plastic bottles, polyester, and cotton into luxurious finishes such as silk, suede, nappa leather, and even glitter. Not only they are stunning and high-quality, but also significantly reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and the ocean. The nappa leather is currently the only material that has been certified by GRS (Global Recycled Standard) due to our small production quantity. As we continue to grow, we hope to certify more of our recycled materials.
This innovative, glossy material is soft yet durable and lightweight. During the production process, substances are combined without having to use toxic DMF (Dimethylformamide) or water. Through DMF elimination, it uses 92% less water, 80% less energy, and emits 93% less VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) than traditional synthetic leather.
Our midsoles are made with algae foam, providing long-lasting cushioning support and antimicrobial properties for maximum comfort. By repurposing excess algae to create sneaker-like insoles, we save water, reduce carbon emissions, and replace over 30% of petroleum used in traditional foam. Removing toxic algae build-up from clean water sources also helps sustain the well-being of marine life in affected areas.
Tencel lining is used in all the Hedy Ankle Boots. This material is made from cellulose fiber, which is biodegradable and sustainably sourced from trees. This material is known for its softness, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties, providing superior comfort to the wearer. Tencel production involves a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents, resulting in minimal waste and reduced water usage
WATER-BASED VEGAN LEATHER
At times when sustainable alternatives such as bio-based or recycled materials are not available for approximately 25% of our products, we may opt for water-based vegan leather. This material eliminates the use of the toxic solvent dimethylformamide (DMF) that is commonly used for making polyurethane synthetic leather. The water-based process reduces energy consumption by 55% and uses 95% less water than the DMF proces
Our shoeboxes are not only beautifully designed but also made from 80% post-consumer chipboard, with a switch to a shopper design in 2022 that doubles as a shipping box to reduce paper usage.
Our dustbags are made from recycled plastic bottles. It takes 2 to 3 500ml bottles to create the accessory dustbag, 4 to 5 bottles for the medium-sized shoe dustbag, and 9 bottles for the large dustbag. This not only helps reduce waste but also promotes a circular economy by repurposing plastic waste.
Our packaging collaterals and printed on soy ink. It is a renewable and biodegradable alternative to traditional petroleum-based ink, and it doesn't contain any toxic materials.
We use post-consumer paper from business cards to shoebox and stuffing paper to all communication collaterals.
